Dance of Shiva project

"Around 14 works, mostly in water mixable oil on canvas, depicting Lord Shiva going through the motions of creation, destruction and salvation, have been captured by veteran artist Uma Bardhan in a new series of paintings.

Nothing represents the daily rhythm of death and birth, destruction and creation more than thetandava by Lord Shiva”, echoes Bardhan, whose interest in the theme took her to countless Shiva temples across India.

In one of Nataraj paintings “The red colour and his turbulent hair means anger and at the same time, his smiling face and conch symbolises bliss and peace. The trident represents shakti or energy. The snake on his body suggests wisdom or the rise of Kulakundalini which is the core theme of our life”
