"Uma Bardhan is among very few artist who uses a rare medium “Water Color on Silk”. It is a painstaking process where a special silk cloth is mounted on board before being used as a painting and she uses imported water colours (from Japan) to paint her imagination. Trained under eminent artists like Late Sree Makhan Dutta Gupta in oil color and Sree Maniklal Banerjee (Ex Professor of Govt. College of Arts & Craft, Calcutta in water color she started painting from her early 20s. Her mastery over this artform is evident considering she spends 5 to 6 hours a day with her paintings.
She says " I was always fascinated about doing water colors on silk.” Among experiences she treasures most was the coveted “First Prize in Water Color from Govt of West Bengal” among others she has received throughout her career."
