The Yagna project

The YAGNA project (2012-2014) is a series of 9 paintings dedicated to Kolkata’s sweat-soaked, bare-footed hand-rickshaw pullers struggling against the heat and hunger while towing human loads on their rickshaws.

Artist has romanticised the hand-rickshaw pullers through her paintings as they truely represent Kolkata in its elements and discomfiting symbol of the city’s poverty and struggle.

The Red color tone used in the paintings represents struggle, poverty and sweat of innocent rickshaw pullers; against the blue color, which is the symbol of technology taking away their livelihood.
